Towering Goblinferno!

Another cluster of Stronghold 2.0 pieces now completed.
The orcs, trolls and crazed goblins will be able to avoid the searing oils poured upon them from the walls above ... now that they have these shiny new Siege Towers.

To the walls!!!

The mock-up and the tile to be replaced.

Don't eat it! it's not Cadbury.

Almost ready to begin assembly.

Orcs love their spiky bits.

Time to reinforce.

Thems won't falls ta bits now.

Further work needed.

They should look pretty tidy on the board ...once finished.

Wheels and platforms in place.

Alongside the mantlets ... the goblinoid arsenal grows.

All done; ladders in place ...now, as I said, to the Walls!!!!

No rest for the wicked ... more war-machines for the trollkin hoard are required.

Happy gaming!

Hoards on the March

Well, I haven't had the chance to play more Stronghold 2nd Edition - even though I've been sorely yearning to - but I have been hard at work creating some more pieces for it.

Following the castle wall sections, I decided to put my hand to some goodies for the baddies :)

Mantlets, I thought, would be a good place to start; give those Orcs, Goblins and Trolls something to cower behind as they encroach upon the battlements.

Orcs love their spikes.

Only the finest of timbers ...Kauri?

Imbued with iron for extra strength.

Watch your feet, or you'll be off for a tetanus shot.

Vlad (30mm from toe to top) steps up for a size comparison.

Down at the construction yard.

Plenty of cowering space in behind.

I think I may need to return to the castle next. The forces of darkness appear to be pushing forward.
Hmmm ... I believe some cauldrons of searing viscous liquids are on the menu.

More updates soon.

Happy gaming!

Great Balls of Fire!

Again with the great games Ignacy! This time, Mr Trzewiczek has assembled a fine board game revolving around the laying of siege to a fortified town. The game itself has been around for a while ... the first edition came out in 2009 ... this year Stronghold 2nd Edition was released. I'd had my eye on it for some time, due to it being from the same designer who created the truly magnificent Robinson Crusoe: Adventures on the Cursed Island ...but after a request to sculpt some pieces, I thought, I really should pick up a copy ~ and I was certainly not disappointed.

A 2 player game; one takes control of the encroaching forces of darkness ... trolls, orcs and goblins ... with an evil glint in their eye, a penchant for heavy machines of war - catapults, ballistas, trebuchets and the like, and dark sorcery at their goblinoid fingertips. The other player commands the residents of a stone-walled hamlet; archers and knights lining the battlements, manning cannons, cauldrons of searing oil, clerics invoking blessings from the gods ... and townsfolk building and rebuilding the walls as they are continually demolished by the fiends trying to gain entry.

They're at the wall... get ready with the oil!

The game runs for several rounds, broken into various actions alternating between the players; if by the end of the seventh, the forces of evil have been kept from entering the township, the defender is victorious; if though, the green hoard manages to get but a single foul foot within the town limits, a terrible fate befalls the citizens.

I won't go into the game-play details; Rodney Smith of Watch it Played - has a great video explaining it all - I'd recommend checking it out if you're interested.

The rulebook (not the actual rules ... the game is solid!) is unfortunately a bit hinky. Certain details can be a bit hard to discern and I had to visit the BGG rules forums and check through the FAQ Portal released, more than once.
The Esoteric Order of Gamers has also just released a great rules summary that helped me out no end!

The goblins are coming, the goblins are coming!!!

I'll just say it's a lot of fun ~ I had a game with my son (8yrs) and we had a blast. He played as the hoards, no surprises that was his choice, while I defended. It was actually a very close finish - came down to an unlucky ballista shot (the gunner failed to hit his mark) and I managed to hold the wall. If the gunner had made the shot the town would have fallen. He accepted defeat graciously.

A few of my finished sculpted wall sections and some
cauldron and mantlet WIPs.

All the components are either card or wood. All very high quality ... I will say some of the small cubes can be a little on the gnarly side though, but I suppose orcs and their kin (these cubes represent) aren't known for their uniformity. My mission though, is to pimp this beast out .. Walls (now completed), cauldrons, a slathering of different orcish war machines, and a scattering of other pieces are on the list.

All 23 wall sections complete ...phew.

Beginning set-up, walls in place.

I'll post updates as more pieces are completed. It's certainly going to be fun (and challenging) making these.

Happy gaming!

A Star Hat has Risen!

Great news! Darcy Perry's "Delvers Lost in the Dungeons of Doom!" Kickstarter has been funded.
There's still time to get in on it - and secure yourself this lineup of superb Heroic Scale miniature figurines, to be cast in cold hard metal, for your fantasy gaming table.

Did I mention it's been FUNDED!

A second Legendary Level Pledge has been acquired, so a new hero is being created by Mr Perry (check out his blog: Hits to Kill) at his sculpting table - that will become available to several of the backing pledge levels; Garm of Hrothmyr - Berserker Theologian...

Hammer-time.

The first push-goal sculpt is also in the making; Playing soon at a good port tavern near you: Allysia - Pirate Bard...

She can surely cut a fine tune.

I'm certainly looking forward to seeing these new pieces.

Congratulations Darcy on a successful Kickstarter!

The ever-so-stealthy Assassin ...Hanzo.

One of the 5 Legendary Hero pledges has already been snatched up, which means a custom sculpt - sculpted to the pledger's specifications - is in the making and going to be added to the line-up, and will be available to all pledgers...

Delvers Lost in the Dungeons of Doom!

Recently a good friend and fellow gamer decided he'd try his hand at fantasy miniature sculpting.

He's a table top war-gamer and old school RPGer from way back, and has painted many a fine figure in his time. A plethora of the figures he has put a lick of paint to, Mr Darcy Perry has also converted in some way ... adding a sword here, a belt-pouch there ...a bearskin cape on a Barbarian, a beaded plait on a Dwarf, and each figure always wonderfully based.

But until earlier this year, he hadn't actually sculpted a full figure from scratch.

Early April, inspired, Darcy sat down at his workbench, picked up his sculpting tool and epoxy putty, and Sir Theobald (aka Ser Holger) was born ...

Well, the troupe has grown now to nine; each, one of the classic RPG achitypes - A bold knight, brawny barbarian, stout ranger, learned wizard, sly halfling, devout cleric, fearless amazon, surly dwarf and an ever so stealthy ninja can be found among them,  and all of these beauties are now available to you via Darcy's Star Hat Miniatures - Delvers Lost in the Dungeons of Doom! collection, launched today on Kickstarter.

The Delvers incarnate.

Being a bit of a dabbler in ye olde Photoshop and partaker in many things arty, I took it upon myself to do what I could to help; designing the backdrops for the individual figurines (shown below), the banner (above), and the Star Hat logo.

Archmage Merlot.

Half-Elf Pathfinder Martyn.

Dwarf Lord Borin.

Star Hat Miniatures.

The Star Hat logo I came up with was in fact designed based upon a previous illustration I had created of the minor God "Fubar" - authored by Darcy Perry, that appeared in the tome: the Revised and Expanded "Petty Gods" Compendium; available here...

(sold at cost for $22.47 USD through Lulu.com)

(sold at cost for $13.22 USD through Lulu.com)

(FREE through RPGNow)

Other creations by Darcy and myself can also be found within.

Fubar - Petty god of magical mishap and adventure.

Coming soon to a dungeon near you!

I can't wait to see this project come to fruition. The sculptures are truly amazing and would look fabulous in any dungeon. So don't miss out on a great opportunity to add some very classy figures to your collection. Head over to Kickstarter and back Darcy's Delvers Lost in the Dungeons of Doom! You won't regret it.

A Fair Dinkum Desert Island

Just had the pleasure of creating a selection of pieces for a gaming cobber from across the ditch.
More pieces for that ripper board game, Robinson Crusoe: Adventures on the Cursed Island.

For this project I designed a brand new Morale marker. Instead of the 'Survivor Island' style torch, this time I thought I'd make one in the likeness of one of the Totems found in the game; pretty pleased with the result :)

I also made small tweaks to a few of the other pieces.

Will the stone god bring joy or dispair?

How did the natives move stones so large?

Delicious coconuts.

The freshest of fish.

Smoked fillets.

Hand polished to a smooth sheen :)

More food for the larder.

Hunting went well today!

Fine tanned leather pelts.

The variety of animals on this island is astounding,

Logs for the wood pile.

Shelter from the elements.

Palm leaves are great for keeping out the rain.

...and the green complements my eyes.

Lets hope it holds up in a storm.

If you'd like to check out more of my RC:AotCI sculpts ... you can view them out here.
Anyone interested in having pieces commissioned, feel free to fire me a message via the contact form on the right, and I'll send you my price-list and ordering info:)
