The Second Mouse gets the Cheese!

Another delicious smorgasbord of cheesy goodness; these sculpts off to a fine gaming home in the state of Colorado, in the U. S. of A.

It was great having the chance to do another Cheddar Golem, actually the first I've created since the one I made for my own set. I've gotta say I was really pleased with how this one turned out ... Even though I'm pretty happy with mine, this new one looks like his bigger, tougher, more handsome brother - all ready to head out and show some dirty rats what for!

"You talking to me? You talking to me?
Well I'm the only Cheddar Golem here".

A Fish Hook and Mousetraps were also in the bundle ...Alder floor boards and Cherry-wood traps.

Watch those fingers.

Let's catch ourselves some vermin.

Sizing up some foes; Filch keeping his distance... as per usual.

An aerial view.

The tail end.

You know what they say about Cheddar Golems with
stumpy cube-like fingers?

No?

Neither do I.

Four Cheese Wheels, each consisting of six wedges, included ... I always get a little peckish when sculpting pieces for the Mice and Mystics board game; go figure. At one point I had to break out the Castello Creamy Blue, mmmmmmmm ... a very tasty number ~ I highly recommend it!

A selection of Blue, Brie, Swiss and Camembert.

All I need now is some wine and crackers.

A very caseous collection.

Farewell, my cheesy friends, travel well.

Happy gaming!

A Finger in several Pies

After several weeks working on a couple of other projects, namely, carving a rather large slab (just over a meter tall) of stone (commissioned as a Birthday gift) and creating a handful of pictures for a recent exhibition - a group exhibition, including works by myself, my sister, mother, and also my father, Peter Brown, who passed away in 2005... I have picked up my Zahle Wax Carver no.5 and sat down to sculpt some more clay.

These pieces are heading off to a fine man in Canada.
To accompany his copy of the Mice and Mystics board game, this selection of sculpts will be being added to an already established collection.

It's certainly a satisfying task, making a fellow gamer's enjoyment of games even more enjoyable through your artwork.

A nutty Swiss and tangy Blue.

The ever-handy Fork.

Meow...

The Grape's of Rats.

Looks like we're heading for the Kitchen.

As well as the M&M, a few pieces for the Robinson Crusoe: Adventures on the Cursed Island board game were also requested...

The finest furs.

Crates washed upon the rocks.

The Log Lady would be proud.

Dinner!

The life of the party.

Home wasn't built in a day.

You only had one job!

Brunch.

Now that's a desert island this castaway
wouldn't mind being washed upon.

Currently in transit; fingers crossed the bundle arrives in time for Christmas :)

In case any one is interested, here are a few snaps of the stone slab that buffed, scuffed and calloused my hands over a few weeks - the first stone carving I have attempted - I must say I quite enjoyed doing it, and may well try my hand at it again some time...

The Green Man.

The Rose of Yorkshire.

The stars are right.

Field of grass.

A shaggy Scottie.

Phew ...completed.

Here also are are snaps of some of the pieces that were in the exhibition, including my RC:AotCI pieces...

From the depths.

The brew.

Tea and cakes with Mr Beasley.

Visage #1.

Visage #2.

Robinson Crusoe on display, works by
my sister and mother on the walls.

Happy Gaming!

Memento Mori

More commissioned work: This time it's the Weapon marker, also for the Robinson Crusoe: Adventures on the Cursed Island board game.

If that troublesome wild llama manages to hoof and gnaw its way through your sturdily constructed palisade, you might just like to have something pointy and or choppy at hand; that's where these come in. Have at ye!

Also displaying the unfortunate castaway who was ill equipped
when the last rapacious llama made an appearance!

Don't be distracted by the pretty flora, that llama will be on you
like white on rice.

More items you'd be best not to try hurdling.

By the expression on that skull,
it doesn't look like his demise was a pleasant one.

I think he was getting a bit long in the tooth anyway.

Feel free to check out more of my Robinson Crusoe: Adventures on the Cursed Island here.

Like Rats from a Sinking Ship!

It's been a small season since my last post ...but I have not been (too) idle.

I've been busy play-testing the upcoming Mice and Mystics 'Downwood Tales' expansion.
Venturing beyond the castle walls (from the core game) the mice explore into the wilderness, facing a whole host of  unfamiliar enemies and challenges as they take on exciting new adventures ...also joined by new heroes to help them on their path.
It certainly's going to be a great addition to Mr Jerry Hawthorne's rodent packed adventure game.

I've also been pimping out one of my recent acquisitions, Robinson Crusoe ~ Adventures on the Cursed Island. A wonderfully fun game of survival ...well, maybe not so much fun for the castaways themselves.
Washed ashore after being shipwrecked, a group of one to four unfortunate individuals must do their best to prevent their demise while attempting to complete one of six included scenarios; ranging from trying to build a signal fire in hope of signalling a passing ship, to dealing with cannibals, to escaping from lava spewing volcanoes. You have to build shelter, a roof, a surrounding palisade, find food, hunt and fend of wild animals, create tools, explore your surroundings and deal with varying weather conditions.

It's a fully co-op game, and can be played solo (which is what I've been doing) and it is a fabulous solitaire game! Not easy, a very good challenge with plenty to think about. Just what you want in a solitaire board game ...well, at least I do.

The theme is strong with this one ..so it certainly was asking for a component upgrade.

Here's the upgraded 'Weapons' marker
...it was originally represented by a 8mm black plastic cube.
I think this is a little more suitable.

Ægir be praised!

Just a friendly heads up on the Shipwrights of the North Sea Kickstarter project.

I've mentioned previously that this was under way ... but just thought I'd confirm it has reached it's funding goal (of $8k). In fact it's surpassed that and has now just hit it's 4th "Push Goal" ($30k)!!
That's new cards (more townsfolk, buildings and a fresh ship), added vp chits, a starting player marker, not to mention a full component upgrade ... that's a linen laminate on the cards, board and box, higher quality wooden components and a custom box insert!
If this wasn't a worthwhile purchase before (and it was) ... it certainly is now.

I Smell a Rat!

If you've checked out my Pimp My Game page you would have seen I'm slowly but surely tweaking up my copy of Mice and Mystics (by Jerry Hawthorne of Plaid Hat Games). It's a charming adventure game where the heroes are mice (go figure) ...well, humans that have been transformed into mice. I'm a huge fan of this game .. I love it! My kids love it, and now, we have their friends scratching at the door (not dissimilar to Brodie the Cat) trying to get in on the action. And who could blame them. The story is a big part of the game, it's well written and really draws you in. There's action, intrigue, treasure, traps, magic and battles galore. Rats, bugs, the resident castle cat, a deadly crow ...and more!

Well, I've just thrown up my latest additions, some of the figurines, painted...

This is Filch, the Scamp - watch your pockets, he won't hesitate to relieve you of your change.

Check out the other figs on the Pimp my Game page.
